MIANWALI: At least 20 passengers including the driver sustained injuries as two trains collided with each other near Qilla Sattar Shah in Sheikhupura district on Sunday.
The accident occurred after a passenger train struck a freight train already parked on the main railway line, police said. Rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital where five victims are said to be in critical condition.
A passenger train from Mianwali to Lahore met with an accident at Qila Sattar Shah railway station in Ferozwala. 29 passengers including the driver and assistant driver were injured.
Railways authorities said the Mianwali Express was going from Lahore to Mari Indus when it collided with a freight car standing on the track after the driver did not change tracks. In the accident, train driver Imran Sarwar and assistant driver Muhammad Bilal were injured.
The accident occurred due to the alleged negligence of the railway station staff after they failed to change the fork in time and the passenger train collided with the goods vehicle. Railways authorities said repair work of track for train movement is going on.
On August 6, at least 25 people were killed and over 100 sustained injuries when 10 bogies of Hazara Express traveling from Karachi to Rawalpindi derailed near Nawab Shah.
Railway officials reported that the tragic incident occurred near Saharai Railway Station, located between Shahzadpur and Nawabshah when the Hazara Express was en route from Karachi. The derailment resulted in 10 bogies veering off the tracks, leading to chaos and injuries among the passengers on board.
