KARACHI: First dengue death of the year 2020 reported at a private hospital in Karachi, Sindh Health Department confirmed.
Sources at Sindh Health Department confirmed that a 35-year old woman died of dengue fever at a private hospital of the metropolis.
Citing the details of death sources said the woman was brought to a private hospital and shifted the emergency unit of the hospital with dengue fever and later died during treatment. The woman is said to be a resident of district West Karachi.
Health officials stated that this was the first death of dengue fever in 2020; however, 46 patients had died due to dengue fever in Sindh in 2019.
According to Prevention and Control Program for Dengue (PCPD) Sindh, 20 more dengue fever cases were reported across the metropolis during the month of February 2020, taking the number of reported cases rose to 262 since Jan 2020.
Authorities of PCPD claimed to have recorded 27 more dengue fever cases across the province in a week, out of 20 have emerged in metropolis and seven in other districts of the province.
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has instructed the dengue control program authorities to initiate research-based work in order for precautionary steps to be taken in vulnerable areas.
