The Accountability Court in Pakistan is set to announce its verdict today, January 13, in the 190 million pounds case involving imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
According to a report by Pak Observer on Monday, the judgment, overseen by Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana, had been reserved since December 18 and faced multiple delays due to various reasons, including the judge’s leave.
Initially, the verdict was scheduled for December 23, later postponed to January 6, and eventually to January 13. The case revolves around a reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in December 2023, alleging that Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and others caused a loss of £190 million to the national exchequer.
The report states that the reference centers on an alleged settlement between the PTI government and a property tycoon, with claims that funds sent by the UK’s National Crime Agency were misused.
Bushra Bibi, named for her role as a trustee of the Al-Qadir Trust, faces accusations alongside other notable figures. Key witnesses included Azam Khan (former Principal Secretary), Pervez Khattak (former Chief Minister), and Zubaida Jalal (former Federal Minister).
The trial lasted a year, with 35 witnesses providing testimony, all cross-examined by Khan’s legal team. The accused were formally indicted on February 27, 2023.
