Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, announced on Saturday that 100,000 poor families in the province will receive free solar systems.
Speaking to the media, Gandapur stated that each eligible household will be provided with a solar system of up to 2 kilowatts. The system includes panels, an inverter, wiring, fans, and bulbs. He explained that the installation of these solar systems aims to reduce electricity theft and line losses. The systems will be allocated to poor households registered under the Ehsaas program.
Gandapur highlighted that, unlike Punjab where only solar panels are being distributed, his province will be providing complete solar systems. Over 20 billion rupees have been allocated for this initiative.
It should be noted that the provision of free solar panels for needy families was first introduced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of Punjab, followed by similar efforts by the Sindh government. Chief Minister Gandapur’s announcement marks the latest expansion of this initiative.
