More than 100 Palestinians were martyred and dozens were injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a school sheltering displaced people in the Daraj district of eastern Gaza, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA on Saturday.
Al Jazeera reported that the Israeli military confirmed the strike on the school in Gaza City, alleging that militants were using the facility as a hideout.
Gaza’s civil defense agency spokesman, Mahmoud Basal, described the attack as a “horrific massacre” in a Telegram post. He reported that some of the bodies caught fire due to the blast, and rescue crews are working to control the flames and recover the bodies of the victims while aiding the injured.
On the other hand, the US has announced to release of $3.5bn to Israel for weapons and military equipment.
The money is part of a $14.1bn spending bill that was passed by Congress in April.
“The funding is essentially money Israel can use to buy advanced weapons systems and other equipment from the US through the Foreign Military Financing program,” a report stated.
