At least 10 people were confirmed dead and 15 others injured after a catastrophic traffic accident involving a 22-wheeler truck that crushed several vehicles and fell on a passenger coach on the Indus Highway in Karak on Saturday.
According to local authorities, the tragic incident occurred at Ambiri Kalma Chowk, when the brakes of the large 22-wheeler truck failed, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Despite his efforts to stop the truck, the massive vehicle collided with multiple cars before toppling onto a passenger coach.
Rescue 1122 personnel, who responded quickly to the scene, reported that the truck’s crushing weight trapped several individuals beneath its wheels. Efforts to rescue survivors from the wreckage were ongoing, and officials feared the death toll could rise as rescuers continued to extract passengers from the coach, which was severely compressed under the weight of the truck.
The injured victims were quickly transported to nearby hospitals, with several in critical condition. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the brake failure and to assess whether any negligence contributed to the accident.
The accident has sparked widespread concern over road safety, especially concerning the operation of large vehicles on busy highways. Local residents and officials have called for increased inspections and stricter regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
As of now, the identity of the victims has not been officially released, and authorities are working to notify their families. The community is in mourning as they await further updates from the ongoing rescue and investigation efforts.
