Pakistan’s famous singer-songwriter Zebunnisa Bangash popularly known as Zeb Bangash has just celebrated 11 years of her ‘Kya Khayal Hai’ song.
In a long Instagram post, the Dayar e Dil singer shared how she had taught herself how to read very little Hindi, got to know wonderful musicians, and made a song that combined Hindi/Urdu/Dari/ shades of Bengali. For her, it was just the best.

The Dont Be Silly thanked Shantanu, Swanand, Haniya, and everyone who was a part of the song. According to her, these people gave ‘Kya Khayal Hai’ so much love.
She in the same post, wrote, “Fun Fact: We were complete slackers and so excited to meet each other that while we were supposed to be making a song, we ended up hanging, eating mithai from #bangalsweets , and listening to and singing old songs for two whole days instead. 😂.”

She also urged her fans to watch the episode in her bio to see how the song happened and how Shantanu made the chorus melody, and Haniya made a riff around it. “Swanand would disappear for a bit to get inspired and come back with stunning lyrics and we never thought it would come together so beautifully,” she shared.
Bangash is the first Pakistani artist who served as a music director of Bollywood movie ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’, which received 18 film awards. During her career, Bangash has recorded songs in Urdu, Pashto, Punjabi, Turkish, Persian, Saraiki and others. She has been often seen on the Pakistani television shows Coke Studio and Pepsi Battle of the Bands.
Zeb Bangash is the first Pakistani artist to serve as music director of an award-winning Bollywood film; She is part of the Brooklyn-based ensemble Sandaraa, with the klezmer clarinetist/composer Michael Winograd and a number of other leading Brooklyn-based musicians.
