ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul has pledged a complete ban on plastic shopping bags in the federal capital on Wednesday.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, she said that the ban will come into effect with the cooperation of people.
She said that the officials of the ministry of climate change were not acting on personal capacity but they have been granted full authorization to ensure implementation of the ban on plastic bags.
The minister said that Pakistan would be made a plastic-free state as the ban on plastic bags in the federal capital has turned into a countrywide campaign.
She said that other provinces have also shown the intent to make their districts plastic-free.
The State Minister for Climate Change in her address said that according to a survey, about two million people in Islamabad use three to four bags daily, which is alarming for the environment.
