Unidentified assailants gunned down a young doctor in what police believe was a targeted attack near Karachi’s Mehran Hotel late Monday night.
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Syed Asad Raza, Dr Sarang Memon was traveling with his wife, also a doctor, in a rickshaw along Stadium Road.
The couple was heading toward an apartment near the Karachi Press Club when armed assailants in a car intercepted them at Dr Dawood Pota Road. The attackers opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Dr Memon suffered four gunshot wounds and was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre at around 11:30pm. Despite efforts to save him, he died approximately 20 minutes later. Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed confirmed that a bullet wound to the chest proved fatal.
Authorities have collected evidence from the crime scene and are reviewing CCTV footage. Initial investigations suggest the killing was not linked to robbery but may have stemmed from personal enmity. Dr Memon worked at a private hospital in Gulistan-i-Jauhar and was originally from Badin.
