Karachi: The 9th of Muharram is being observed across the country with due solemnity and sanctity to honor the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions in Karbala.
Religious scholars are throwing light on the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), and mourning processions are being taken out in various parts of the country.
Security has been beefed up across the country for the mourning processions and religious gatherings. The Sindh government has decided to suspend mobile phone service in the province.
Security is beefed up across the country
A heavy contingent of security personnel have been deployed, aerial monitoring of the processions is being conducted. Around 1,600 police officers with 22 mobiles and 20 motorcycles were deployed along with the 3.5-kilometer stretch, where the procession passed through the South district. Moreover, the policemen were also deployed at 70 rooftops in the route. The cellular services are blocked in Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta among other major cities.
The Punjab Home Department and as well as the Home Department of Sindh has banned pillion riding in respective cities on 9th and 10th Muharram to avoid any unfortunate incident.
Karachi’s MA Jinnah Road sealed
In Karachi, MA Jinnah Road has been sealed with containers and other barricades. It would remain unavailable for routine traffic on 9th and 10th Muharram. Roads joining Saddar Regal Chowk, corridor-3 to Saddar Dawa Khana have also been sealed for traffic.
Moreover, Adviser to Chief Minister for Information, Law and Anti-Corruption Barrister Murtaza Wahab had said that foolproof security arrangements are being ensured during Muharram-ul-Haram with heavy deployment of law enforcement agencies across the province. The federal and provincial governments have also announced a public holiday on 9th and 10th of Muharram.
Control rooms were set up while CCTV cameras are also placed to avoid any untoward incident. Youm-e-Ashur, the 10th of Muharram, will be observed with reverence and religious solemnity in the country on Tuesday.
