Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage, and Culture, Attaullah Tarar, has announced that February 8 will be observed as “Youm-e-Tameer-o-Taraqi” (Day of Development and Progress) to mark the government’s first year in office. This announcement has sparked speculation about whether the date will be declared a public holiday.
Speaking to the media after attending the final match of the Media Cricket League, the minister stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif decided to commemorate February 8 as Youm-e-Tameer-o-Taraqi in recognition of the government’s milestones, including significant economic progress achieved over the past year.

Highlighting the administration’s achievements, Tarar emphasized the restoration of international institutions’ confidence in Pakistan’s economy. He also noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit was held in Pakistan for the first time in 27 years. As part of the celebrations, the government plans to confer awards on high achievers for their contributions over the past year.
However, the government has yet to confirm whether February 8 will be designated as a public holiday.
