In a shocking incident of violence, the wife of a religious scholar was shot dead in a road rage attack after asking for way in Rawalpindi.
The incident occurred within the jurisdictions of Waris Khan and Chah Sultan police stations, where the wife of Mufti Musarrat Iqbal, identified as Nazia Musarrat, was travelling with her brother to visit her ailing mother at Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology.
According to initial reports, their vehicle was obstructed by a car parked in the middle of the road. When they requested the driver to make way, the suspect allegedly opened fire in public.
The woman sustained critical injuries and later died while being taken to hospital. Her body was shifted for a post-mortem examination.
Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani took immediate notice of the incident and sought a report from the SP Rawal. Police have registered a case, arrested the suspect, and taken the vehicle into custody.
Officials stated that the accused initially fled the scene but was later apprehended and will be presented before court with solid evidence.
Leaders of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam strongly condemned the incident, terming it an act of brutality and a failure of law enforcement, and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
