The State Bank of Pakistan has announced that all commercial banks and financial institutions will remain closed on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in observance of Labour Day, in line with the national public holiday.
Labour Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, is globally recognized as a tribute to the struggle for fair wages, reasonable working hours, and better working conditions.
In an official statement, the central bank confirmed that it will also remain closed on that date. As a result, banking operations across the country will be suspended for the day.
“The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on May 01, 2025 (Thursday) being a public holiday on the occasion of Labour Day, as declared by the Government of Pakistan,” read the notification.
Meanwhile, educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, would also remain closed in observance of the holiday.
In Pakistan, Labour Day is commemorated through rallies, seminars, and events organized by trade unions and workers’ associations, emphasizing the continuous efforts to protect labor rights and promote social justice.
