Why are we selling our family silver? Tarin questions privatization

KARACHI: Former Finance Minister Shoukat Tarin on Sunday, lambasted the federal cabinet for approving an ordinance to sell all state’s assets. He called it ‘Outrageous’ asking if someone will stop this insanity.

Taking to twitter the finance minister in PTI government said “PDM cabinet approves ordinance to bypass all procedures & abolish regulatory checks for selling state’s assets to foreign countries. Cabinet committee decisions on the sale of assets can neither be challenged in courts nor probed by investigation agencies.”

He further said “This is outrageous. Why are we selling our family silver when share prices of our profitable SOEs are at a deep discount due to a) no dividends given in last few years bec[because] of liquidity and b) the PSX crash since imported has taken over. Will someone stop this insanity?”

Earlier, the former Prime Minister Imran Khan lashed out at the PLM-N led government saying ‘thieves should never be allowed to sell our national assets.

“How can Imported govt[government] brought to power through US conspiracy, led by Crime Minister, who’s family along with Zardari have volumes written on their corruption, be trusted with sale of national assets & that too thru bypassing all procedural and legal checks,” the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf wrote on his twitter.

On July 20, Former finance minister Shaukat Tarin said that political instability is causing economic turmoil in the country.

“Despite Miftah Ismail’s claims the market not showing trust in him,” Shaukat Tarin said. “Devaluation of rupee will result in the price hike,” he added. The market is jittery and required restoration of confidence so as the situation returns to normal, he said. “The people have to pay the debt they have taken,” the former finance minister had said.
