Senior lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam was shot dead in an apparent targeted attack, while two others including his son were injured outside a mosque in Karachi’s Defence Phase 6 area.
According to police, Khawaja Shamsul Islam was exiting the mosque on Khayaban-e-Rahat after the prayers when unidentified assailants, who had been lying in wait, opened fire on him.
As a result of the gunfire, Khawaja Shamsul Islam, his son, and one other individual sustained injuries. They were shifted to a private hospital, where Khawaja Shamsul Islam succumbed to his wounds. He had sustained three bullet injuries.
Following the incident, police personnel arrived at the scene, and the injured were transported to the hospital. According to the SSP South, an investigation into the incident is underway.

Khawaja Shamsul Islam had been associated with the legal profession for over 30 years. Mr Islam was representing several high-profile cases and was a well-known lawyer in both civil and criminal matters. He was recognized as an expert in land dispute cases.
Last November, Shams was shot at and wounded in Clifton when he was returning to his office on foot after offering Isha prayers when he was attacked and violently assaulted by a group of 15 to 20 individuals armed with guns, iron rods, and sticks. Unidentified armed persons injured him with a gunshot after beating him up.
An FIR had also been registered against him in the Defence area over an altercation with the police.
