Benedict Kaminski, a 38-year-old man from Calgary, has been identified as the suspect in the brutal killings of his wife and her father.
His body was found by Calgary police on Monday, December 30, 2024, following a day-long manhunt that had gripped the region.
What Happened:
The Calgary Police Service launched an intense search for Kaminski after discovering the bodies of his wife and her father. The police initially issued an emergency alert that afternoon, warning residents of a dangerous person in possession of a firearm. Kaminski, believed to have been driving a black Nissan Pathfinder with Alberta license plate CLN 5276, was wanted in connection with the deaths, which shocked the northwest communities of Calgary.
The police were alerted by the public around 3:40 p.m. when they received information about a vehicle parked in the Water Valley area, northwest of Calgary. Upon investigating the location, officers found Kaminski’s body near his vehicle, ending the search. The Dangerous Person Alert was subsequently canceled, with authorities confirming the suspect’s death.
Earlier that day, police responded to a call at a residence in Kincora Grove N.W. around 9:30 p.m. where they found a man in his 70s deceased. The investigation led to the discovery of a second victim—Kaminski’s wife—who was in her 30s. She was found later that night in Tuscany Ridge Heights N.W., and is believed to be the daughter of the first victim.
The deaths are suspected to be domestic and targeted in nature. Police did not release the names of the victims, but a GoFundMe campaign was set up by a friend of the deceased woman to support her three young children, who now face the heartbreaking loss of their mother.
Family and friends have expressed their grief and outrage, while authorities continue to investigate the events leading to the tragic deaths.
