DG FIA Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir has been removed from his position due to his failure to prevent boat accidents and illegal migration from the country.
According to a report by Geo News citing sources on Wednesday, a notification has also been issued, designating Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Establishment Division.
Sources reveal that the Ministry of Interior had sent a summary to the Prime Minister recommending the removal of the DG FIA. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the decision to remove him from office.
According to media sources, DG FIA was dismissed due to delays in investigations into boat accidents. The investigations were not conducted with diligence as per the Prime Minister’s directives. Additionally, the failure to curb large-scale illegal migration also contributed to his removal.
Sources further state that the Establishment Division has begun shortlisting officers for the appointment of a new DG FIA. The Ministry of Interior will submit a summary to the Cabinet for approval.
The Prime Minister has instructed that an experienced officer be appointed as the new DG FIA.
It is noteworthy that just a day before his removal, the former DG FIA had dismissed FIA officials involved in the Greece boat accident.
