Jameela Jamil has spoken out against the rise of “Ozempic heroin chic,” reflecting on her own struggles with an eating disorder and criticizing harmful weight loss trends.
The “Good Place” actress, who has overcome anorexia, took to Instagram on Thursday to share her thoughts on Hollywood’s obsession with dieting, posting a cheerful photo of herself enjoying food in a black two-piece swimsuit.
“May I have the strength through this era of Ozempic heroin chic, in my industry, to continue the good work I’ve done on my brain throughout 2025,” she wrote in a caption over a video of herself. “I would rather leave this industry than get dragged back.”
Jamil expressed concern over the trend of people in the industry using Ozempic to rapidly lose weight in pursuit of the ultra-slim “waif” look that fits sample sizes. “The amount of people in my industry just taking it to go from slim to super skinny… has been hard to watch,” she shared. “Especially for those of us who have fought off eating disorders. Who are they really doing it for?”

She added, “I plan on sitting out this cycle. Curves will come back. They always do. Then they’ll go away again. Then come back. I’m not playing with my brain, my heart, my bone density, or my metabolism for a trend.”
The first image in her post shows her at what she describes as the “height” of her anorexia. Although she is unwrapping chocolate in the photo, she admitted she was pretending to eat it, masking her true feelings. “I was pretending to be happy. Pretending not to be on the verge of fainting,” she said.
Jamil confirmed that she had been “eating properly” for five years by the time the photo was taken and regretted the toll her body had endured.
