Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire by Sunday, May 18.
Addressing the Senate meeting, Dar made it clear that Pakistan will not recognize anyone’s superiority in the region. “Talks will be held on an equal footing, the matter will ultimately lead to negotiations. Now there will be comprehensive talks with India. An agreement has been reached to extend the ceasefire between Pakistan and India. The ceasefire will remain in place until May 18,” he added.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan did not request a ceasefire from anyone. “Marco Rubio’s first call came at 8:15 am on the morning of May 10. He said that India is ready for a ceasefire. I said if India is ready for a ceasefire, then we are also ready. I told Marco Rubio that you will ensure that India implements the ceasefire. After this call, the Pakistani forces were informed and a ceasefire was implemented,” he maintained.
Dar further said that an hour after Marco Rubio’s contact, Prince Faisal of Saudi Arabia called, they talked about ceasefire, Prince Faisal said that Marco Rubio talked about ceasefire.
He said that we have avenged what India did, the Pakistan Air Force has become the king of the air in the war, and India’s dream of supremacy in the region has been buried.
The Deputy Prime Minister further said, “The Indus Waters Treaty cannot be suspended, the Indus Waters Treaty can be changed, it cannot be terminated. The statement of the President of the World Bank on the treaty has also come.”
