Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its forecast regarding the sighting of the Shawwal moon, indicating that Eidul Fitr is unlikely to fall immediately after March 19.
According to reports, the Shawwal 1447 AH moon will be born on March 19 at 6:23am. However, by sunset on the same day, the moon’s age at most meteorological stations across the country will be approximately 12 to 13 hours, which is considered insufficient for visibility.
Based on astronomical analysis, officials have said that there is little to no chance of the crescent being sighted on March 19.
If the moon is not sighted that evening, Eidul Fitr is expected to be observed on March 21, subject to official confirmation.
It should be noted that the formal announcement regarding the sighting of the Eid moon will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after due consultation and verification of testimonies.
