The Sindh government has announced a Rs. 58 billion support package for wheat farmers, aimed at providing direct financial assistance to small and medium-scale cultivators. The package will benefit approximately 411,000 farmers who own between 1 to 25 acres of land.
According to the provincial government, each eligible farmer will receive Rs. 24,700 per acre, and the support amount will be disbursed directly before the wheat sowing season begins. This initiative is intended to ease financial pressures on growers and encourage timely cultivation.
Sindh Agriculture Minister Sardar Bux Mahar emphasized that the government’s top priority is to alleviate farmers’ economic hardships.
Currently, wheat reserves in Sindh stand at 1.385 million metric tons, while wheat prices in the open market have surged to Rs. 9,000 per 100 kilograms.
In response to the rising prices and shortfall, the Sindh Food Department has recommended that the federal government import 2 to 3 million tons of wheat. Additionally, it has proposed a subsidy of Rs. 84 billion under the upcoming 2025-26 wheat release policy to keep flour prices stable.
To ensure transparent distribution of funds, a monitoring committee has been formed under the supervision of respective Director Generals.
