ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday met with a delegation of traders and industrialists from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, assuring them of the government’s complete cooperation in addressing the security and economic challenges facing the business community in the two provinces.

Representatives of chambers of commerce from both provinces briefed the Interior Minister on the prevailing security situation and the difficulties confronting traders and industrialists in their respective regions.
Naqvi, in turn, apprised the delegation of the overall security landscape in the country — with particular focus on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan — and outlined the steps being taken by the government to address it.
The meeting came just a day after Naqvi, addressing Pakistan’s first Economic Summit in Karachi on July 30, described the country’s existing governance system as having “failed” and called for stakeholders to come together to chart a new administrative and political framework, saying such consensus-building could take anywhere from a few weeks to a year.
He had also floated the creation of new administrative units as part of efforts to improve governance and service delivery.
His remarks drew a mixed reaction, with several commentators questioning the timing and framing of the critique given his own long-standing role in the political and administrative system he was describing.
Building on that message, Naqvi told Friday’s delegation that the government would deploy every available resource to resolve the problems faced by traders and industrialists and to ensure their protection.
“The entire government is with you, and we will resolve all your legitimate issues,” he said, adding that providing a safe and conducive business environment for the private sector remains a top priority.
The Interior Minister announced that he would soon travel to Peshawar and Quetta for detailed follow-up meetings with the business community, to be held in the presence of senior officials and representatives of the respective provincial governments, with the aim of arriving at a permanent and practical resolution to the issues raised.
Naqvi underscored that the private sector plays a key role in ensuring the country’s economic stability, and that Pakistan’s overall development is closely tied to the growth and confidence of its business community.
