ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s weekly inflation eased slightly, latest figures released by the Bureau of Statistics show, though prices of a wide range of essential items continued to rise.
According to a media report, the Bureau of Statistics reported that weekly inflation fell by 0.98 percent, while the overall annual inflation rate stood at 13.52 percent.
Despite the decline in inflation overall, the Bureau of Statistics said the prices of 23 essential commodities increased during the week. The sharpest spike was recorded in tomatoes, which jumped 125.40 percent. Onions rose by 10.72 percent, while potatoes increased by 10.06 percent.
The data also showed higher prices for several other daily-use items, including eggs, which increased by 8.32 percent, and flour, up 5.08 percent. Prices for items such as milk, yogurt and rice likewise moved upward.
In contrast, some products became cheaper.
Chicken prices declined by 1.97 percent and bananas fell by 1.44 percent. The Bureau of Statistics also reported decreases in the prices of pulses, sugar, petrol, LPG and garlic.
