During ongoing unrest in the Kurram tribal district following an attack on a forces convoy that left the Deputy Commissioner and several security personnel seriously injured on Saturday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government imposed Section 144 in the region for two months to maintain peace and prevent further incidents.

According to a report by Pak Observer, the KP government plans to announce bounties for the capture of terrorists involved in the firing incident in the Bagan area of lower Kurram. Militants responsible for the attack on the Deputy Commissioner’s convoy have reportedly been identified, marking a significant breakthrough.

This decision was made during an emergency meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, where the attack’s aftermath was thoroughly reviewed. The meeting, attended by the Inspector General of KP and other senior officials, emphasized strict legal action against those violating the peace agreement. Authorities decided to prosecute all individuals involved in the incident, register cases, and proceed with immediate arrests.

The district administration confirmed on Sunday that an 80-vehicle convoy carrying essential items, including medicines and daily necessities, remains on hold due to security concerns. The convoy, destined for the violence-hit region, will depart once the roads are cleared and security is assured.

The Additional Chief Secretary of KP issued a notification imposing Section 144 in Kurram for two months, banning public gatherings and the display of weapons on the district’s main highway. Another notification appointed grade-18 officer Ashfaq Khan as acting Deputy Commissioner.

Sources revealed that five suspects have been identified, with additional cases to be registered against facilitators. The government has vowed to ensure swift arrests and exemplary punishment for those disrupting peace, reaffirming its commitment to restoring stability in Kurram.
