KABUL: The Afghan Taliban have once again announced an end to the war by saying they want a peaceful transfer of power in the future.

“We assure the protection of women’s rights, the freedom of the media, and the freedom of diplomats,” said Suhail Shaheen, a Taliban spokesman based in Qatar as part of the group’s negotiating team.

Suhail Shaheen has said that they want a comprehensive Islamic government, which means that all Afghans will be part of this government. He said that the Taliban do not intend to take revenge and assure women’s rights, media representatives, and the freedom of diplomats.

Speaking in a TV interview, Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen said, “We ensure the protection of women’s rights, the freedom of the media, and the freedom of diplomats,” he said.

Hezb-e-Islami leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, on the other hand, said the Afghan government was reluctant to end the fighting and relinquish power, delaying the transfer of power to a government acceptable to all.

In an interview, he said the Taliban initially avoided entering Kabul, but some people were taking advantage of the situation. “People should take their safety into their own hands,” he said.
