LAHORE: Former Pakistan cricket team captain Wasim Akram has said the New Zealand cricket board’s statement was disappointing.
Earlier, the New Zealand Cricket Board said that some members of the Pakistani team had “contravened COVID-19 protocols on the first day of managed isolation”.
While appreciating the squad Akram said that he would have done the same thing Babar Azam did if he were the team’s captain. He appreciated the squad for having the patience to stay in isolation in New Zealand.
“The national players in New Zealand are really patient to remain in closed rooms,” Akram added.
The former national cricketer said Pakistan’s squad is currently in a difficult situation and feared it may impact their performance in the series.
“It is an honor for the team to represent Pakistan. Ups and downs are part of life however they have to be faced and tackled in accordance with the situation,” he stressed. Wasim said the Pakistan Cricket Board should have kept the cricketers in isolation for 14 days.
The tourists arrived in New Zealand on November 24 and are scheduled to play three T20s and two Tests. New Zealand has largely eradicated community transmission of coronavirus and has recorded just 1,716 cases and 26 deaths.
