Lahore is buzzing with excitement as the colorful festival of Basant is just a day away. The city is adorned with vibrant kites, dazzling lights, and beautifully decorated historic buildings. This year, the Punjab government has announced official celebrations along with a two-day public holiday, making it a festive occasion for everyone.
In the city’s markets, kite and thread shopping is in full swing, with newly designed kites becoming the center of attention for citizens. From major roads to inner-city streets, yellow flags, banners, and decorative lights are shining to welcome Basant.
According to traders, kites and threads worth approximately 4.4 billion PKR have already been sold, and special menus for Basant are also being prepared.
The Punjab government has declared a two-day public holiday across the province on the 6th and 7th of February.
According to the issued notification, all government and private institutions will remain closed on Friday and Saturday. Earlier, a public holiday was also announced on February 5th for Kashmir Day, resulting in three consecutive holidays in Punjab.
To make the festival safe, the Punjab government has taken strict measures. The district administration is conducting inspections of rooftops across the city, issuing notices to dangerous buildings and homes. The use of chemical threads will be completely banned, and the festival will be monitored through drone cameras.
