A purported private video allegedly linked to Ghazi Nazrul Islam, a Jamaat-e-Islami Member of Parliament elected from Bangladesh’s Satkhira-4 constituency, has been circulating on social media, triggering widespread political and public debate. However, the video’s authenticity and the claims surrounding it have not been independently verified.
According to claims circulating on social media, Ghazi Nazrul Islam was allegedly seen with a young woman at a hotel in Shyamnagar Upazila. The posts accompanying the video contain various allegations, none of which have been independently substantiated.
The viral content also includes religiously charged accusations, including references to “selling tickets to paradise.” These claims originate solely from social media posts, and no credible evidence has been presented to support them.
Initially, Jamaat-e-Islami stated that the video had been generated using artificial intelligence (AI). The party later clarified that the woman shown in the video is Ghazi Nazrul Islam’s second wife.
According to Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Maulana Azizur Rahman, the parliamentarian’s second marriage took place with the consent of his first wife. He added that the party is investigating how the video was leaked and the circumstances surrounding its public release.
Efforts were made to obtain a response from Ghazi Nazrul Islam, but he could not be reached for comment.
Meanwhile, independent fact-checking organizations have reported that they found no clear evidence of AI manipulation in the video. However, they also noted that the video’s authenticity, origin, and full context have not yet been conclusively verified.
