ROME: Violent clashes erupted in various parts of Italy over new measures imposed to curb the second wave of coronavirus in the country.
Up to hundreds of people held protests in several major cities of the country including Rome, Palermo Turin, Naples, and Milan. There were reports of clashes between security forces and demonstrators with police using tear gas to separate protesters.
The protests exploded following the government’s order to close restaurants, bars, gyms, and cinemas with immediate effect. Many regions have also imposed night-time curfews to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Small business owners expressed concerns that they are still recovering from the first lockdown and more restrictions could bankrupt them. As per new restrictions all restaurants, bars, and cafes are allowed take-away only until midnight.

Contact sports are prohibited but shops and most businesses will remain open. The new measures, which are in force until next month till 24th November 24, have instructed all Italy’s schools and universities to conduct online instead of in a classroom.
