Veteran politician Hasil Bizenjo passes away at 62

QUETTA: Veteran politician and National Party’s leader Hasil Bizenjo has passed away in Karachi at the age of 62, the party’s spokesperson confirmed.

According to details, he was admitted to Aga Khan Hospital in a critical condition in the morning. The senator was diagnosed with lung cancer last year.

The veteran politician served as the Minister for Maritime Affairs in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) cabinet from 2017 to 2018. He remained chief of the National Party and was currently serving as an ideologue of the party.

Balochistan National Party (BNP) president Akhtar Mengal shared his condolences at the senator’s passing. He said that he is extremely saddened by the news of Hasil Bizenjo’s passing.

He extended his deepest condolences and prayed for God to elevate his ranks in heaven. “Prayers with the family during this difficult time,” he added.

Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif took to Twitter and said that he was shocked and saddened by the news of Bizenjo’s death.

“As a distinguished politician from Balochistan, he represented the voice of the people of his province & stood for progressive & rule-based politics,” he added.

PPP leader and Senator Sherry Rehman in a tweet said she was shocked, saddened and bereaved to hear of his passing.

“He had been battling cancer so bravely few suspected how advanced the disease was. His public life was marked by progressive, principled politics as an advocate for the vulnerable. End of an era,” she added.
