KARACHI: Veteran actress Naila Jaffery has passed away in Karachi today (Saturday), her family confirmed. She was battling ovarian cancer for the last six years.
According to details, Naila Jaffery’s funeral prayers will be offered today after Isha prayers at Masjid-e-Tooba, Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase two. Hundreds of fans took to social media to offer condolences over the death of Naila Jaffri.
Known for her stellar performances in drama serials such as Aa Mujh ko Satana, Desi Girls and Thodi Si Khushiyan, the actor’s recent video from a hospital bed had gone viral on social media.
Naila, who has always been in high spirits, regardless of her aggressive illness, looked drained and weak in the clip. In the video, Jaffery said that she was suffering from the disease for the last six years and now she was going to get the second session of chemotherapy.
The actor said that she was hospitalized with an infection, adding: “I kept on thinking that our government and policymakers should take care of artists”. She recalled that Pakistan Television had given royalties for shows re-broadcasted by it. “Even though the money was too little, we were happy”.
The reaction to her appeal propelled some action from the Sindh Government as the provincial cultural minister Sardar Shah, announced that the department would bear all her medical expenses.
