In the wake of the recent blast at a mosque in Rawalpindi, Islamabad Police have issued a formal response to a letter from mosque administrations in the federal capital seeking enhanced security measures.
The fresh directives come amid heightened security concerns following the deadly explosion at a mosque in Rawalpindi, which raised alarm over the safety of worshippers and prompted authorities to review security protocols at places of worship.
In its written reply, Islamabad Police instructed that at least one armed security guard must be deployed at mosques during prayer times. The guard will be permitted to carry a weapon within mosque premises to ensure the safety of worshippers.
According to the advisory, parking will not be allowed at mosque entry and exit points or in the immediate surroundings. Moreover, mosques and imambargahs will be required to designate a single entry and exit point to better manage security and monitoring.
The letter further says that vendors, beggars, and the sale of caps or other items outside the main gate of mosques will be strictly prohibited. Mosque administrations have also been directed to immediately inform police in case of any suspicious individuals, activities, or unattended objects within or around the premises.
Islamabad Police stressed that the administrations of mosques and imambargahs must ensure immediate compliance with all instructions. Authorities warned that legal action will be taken in cases of non-compliance.
