US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said during a news conference that the United States is set to launch a major strike against Iran.
He stated that around 7,000 Iranian targets have already been hit during the conflict, claiming that 120 naval vessels and 11 submarines of the Iranian navy have been destroyed.
Hegseth added that senior leaders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have also been targeted, asserting that the United States is on a path to victory.
The US defence secretary also criticised European allies and the media, saying they should thank President Donald Trump, as Iran poses a threat not only to the United States but to the wider region and global civilisation.
He emphasised that the current conflict differs from past wars, stating that the US is acting to protect future generations from what he described as a potential nuclear threat from Iran.
