As per national media reports, the Pakistani government is actively considering transferring former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to another facility, amid ongoing concerns over his detention conditions and weekly protests by supporters outside the prison.
The development aligns with information, though no final decision has been confirmed, and authorities have not issued an official statement.
The move is reportedly aimed at curbing public gatherings and easing logistical pressures at Adiala, which has become a focal point for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demonstrations.

A proposal to shift Khan to Sukkur Central Jail in Sindh province is gaining traction, primarily to disperse protests and reduce media scrutiny around Adiala.
This was highlighted in breaking news segments today, with sources noting the matter is being “seriously reviewed” by Punjab and federal prison authorities.
At least three alternative prisons are on the table, including facilities in Lahore (possibly Central Jail Lahore) and potentially Attock or another Punjab-based site.
Analyst Ajmal Jami revealed on Capital TV that preparations are underway, but the exact destination remains fluid to avoid legal challenges or further unrest.
Discussions intensified following Khan’s recent bail in eight May 9-related cases by the Supreme Court on December 8, though he remains detained on the separate Al-Qadir Trust conviction (14-year sentence).
Family visits, restricted for weeks, resumed under pressure, with Khan’s sister Uzma Khan Niazi describing his isolation as “psychological torture” in a December 2 meeting, citing a windowless cell, constant surveillance, and limited exercise.
Khan, 73, has been in Adiala since August 2023, facing over 200 cases, including corruption and terrorism charges.
The jail, designed for 1,900 inmates but housing 6,000, has drawn international criticism for its conditions, including solitary confinement and restricted access.
Earlier rumors of a secret transfer or health issues in late November were debunked by Adiala officials, who confirmed Khan was “fully healthy” and present.
Supporters view the potential shift as an escalation of suppression, while critics like PTI’s Gohar Ali Khan warn it could spark nationwide protests.
