LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Wednesday night froze all the bank accounts of Pakistani singer Aima Baig over what it said was unpaid taxes.
According to a local daily, the tax collection body attempted to recover money from the singer’s account, however, Baig had already withdrawn Rs25 million from her bank accounts and emptied them before FBR could get to it.
Baig is reportedly a defaulter of Rs85 million in income taxes. The authority claimed that the singer has not paid her taxes in years 2018, 2019, and 2020. In case of non-payment of income tax, the vehicle she has shown in her tax returns will be confiscated.
The singer has been in the headlines these days as she has been picked along with popular singer Atif Aslam to sing this year’s anthem of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). She was also featured in last year’s anthem ‘Groove Mera’, which was a hit.
Aima Baig is one of the most popular singers in Pakistan. She rose to fame with her debut song Kalabaaz Dil for Lahore se Aagey (starring Saba Qamar and Yasir Hussain) in 2016. In the last seven years, she has recorded several hits and has won local and international awards.
