ISLAMABAD: The International Islamic University in the federal capital has been accused of covering up the incident of gang rape of female students.
As per details, Hamid Hameed, a member of the Standing Committee on Education and National Assembly, said that the case of gang rape would not be allowed to be suppressed.
While addressing a recent meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Education and Vocational Training, Member Assembly Hamid Hameed said, ‘The students of the hostel leave the premises when the university ends. The management is trying to suppress this issue.
During the discussion, the Member National Assembly Mehnaz Akbar Aziz said that gang rape has taken place with female students, this issue will be discussed in the future also, no one will be allowed to suppress this matter, she said by adding that conditions of other universities are also bad.
Answering a media question on the issue of exploitation of female students of the university, Member of Assembly Hamid Hameed said that the affected students were admitted to a private hospital in the F-10 center of Islamabad but the investigation of the incident could not go ahead.
Talking further on the issue of abuse of female students, he said that perhaps the hospital management has lost its medical records, more details in this regard will be sought at the next meeting of the Standing Committee on Education and Vocational Training, he added.
International Islamic University spokesman Nasir Farid said the news was false and fabricated and had nothing to do with reality. The university has formed a special committee on harassment but no such incident has been reported to the committee, he assured.
A spokesman for the International Islamic University said that the administration would take strict action if any such complaint or incident came to light. The university administration makes every effort to protect the lives and property of the students.
