A UK court has allowed Voodoo’s followers to practice black magic in the kingdom as it is their religious right.
As per media reports, a judge in the UK has ruled that Voodoo (African black magic) is a recognized religion, and its followers have the right to practice it without being treated unfairly or discriminated against.
Voodoo, which originated in Africa, is also a type of religion, the number of whose followers is estimated to be in the millions. In the West African state of Benin, a Voodoo festival is celebrated on January 10 every year, in which thousands of people participate and that day is also a public holiday.
An employment tribunal has ruled that Voodoo is a genuine religion because it has its own teachings and uses ideas about spirits and a higher power to try to answer big questions about the world and our place in it, the Daily Star reports.
The report said Voodoo is becoming more than just a personal perspective and is protected by laws promoting equality at work. Voodoo is a religion that is mainly practiced in the Caribbean. It is based on African traditions and involves believing in magic, communicating with spirits and the dead, and using various rituals.
Judge Kate Edmonds ruled in a case where a council worker claimed she was harassed because of her race and religion. The worker was upset because a co-worker had made comments about Voodoo. The judge did not agree that the worker had been harassed.
