U.S. and Israeli aircraft have carried out airstrikes on Iran’s Kharg Island, targeting railway facilities and bridges.
Iranian media confirmed that two people were killed and three injured in an attack on a railway bridge. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that if “terrorist U.S. forces” cross the red line, Iran’s response will not be limited to the region.
According to international media reports, powerful explosions were heard on Kharg Island on Tuesday, where U.S. and Israeli jets targeted key installations, causing major damage. Media sources also reported that the island’s jetty was destroyed, though Iranian authorities have not issued an official statement.
Kharg Island is a critical economic hub for Iran, handling roughly 90% of the country’s oil exports. Strategically located in the northern Persian Gulf, the island is considered the backbone of Iran’s economy.
Until now, U.S. and Israeli strikes were largely limited to Iranian cities, but Kharg Island has now become a target, with reports emerging of potential attempts to seize it.
The island, administratively part of Iran’s Bushehr province, is highly restricted and heavily guarded by the IRGC, with entry allowed only to personnel with special government permits. Though it appears as a small landmass in the sea, nearly 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports pass through Kharg.
