SINDH, KPK: Both Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday reported two more new cases of polio, jumping the total number of polio cases that emerged in 2020 across the country to 31.
Health authorities said a three-old-girl, Fareeha who belongs to Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, contracted poliovirus. While the other has been detected in a three-year-old girl, a resident of Morro in Naushahro Feroze Sindh.
On Friday, two cases of poliovirus had been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. One polio case had reported in Lakki Marwat of a 14-month-old girl was diagnosed with the infection virus, the other case from the same province being a 13-month-old boy living in South Waziristan. A five-day special anti-polio drive in sixteen districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) kicked-off last week.
According to Emergency Operation Center Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the districts where the campaign conducting includes Peshawar, Upper Dir, Hangu, Karak, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Khyber, Bajaur, Orakzai, Kurram, Buner, Dera Ismail Khan, Lower Dir, South Waziristan, and North Waziristan districts of the province.
More than three million children up to five years of age will be administered anti-polio drops during the drive. Ten thousand four hundred and eighty-five teams have been constituted which will ensure administering the anti-polio vaccine to each and every child.
