Veteran Pakistani film and television actor Rana Aftab was shot dead by unknown assailants on Monday, police confirmed.
The attack occurred as he exited a private housing society and was getting into his vehicle. He was hit in the chest and died on the spot.
Police and rescue teams responded promptly, taking his body for a post‑mortem examination and collecting evidence from the scene. Witnesses said three to four men in a golden Corolla blocked his car, and one fired multiple rounds with a Kalashnikov‑type weapon before fleeing. A murder case has been registered, but no arrests have been made.
Aftab, 63, had a long and distinguished career in television and film, often portraying authoritative roles such as judges and lawyers.
His notable TV works include Lal Aandhi, Laag, Rakhwala, and Aik Mohabbat Aazmaish, while his film appearances include Wahshi Gujjar, Miss Italy, Medium Charlie, Sheer Lahore, and Qabza Group. Before retiring, he also served as deputy director in the Excise Department.
