US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and several other world leaders have signed the draft of the Gaza Board of Peace during a ceremony held in Davos.
Addressing the event, President Trump, who heads the Board of Peace, claimed that he had helped stop eight wars within a span of ten months. Speaking alongside him, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the initiative and said Trump’s efforts had saved millions of lives.
President Trump said he had held talks with the Russian leadership regarding Ukraine and would continue engagement with the United Nations.
He also claimed credit for easing tensions between Pakistan and India, noting that both countries are nuclear powers.
During his speech, Trump stated that he maintains good relations with Venezuela’s leadership and is open to dialogue with Iran. He added that talks had been held with Syria’s leadership and that all sanctions on Syria had been lifted.
He further claimed that Iran’s nuclear capability had been neutralised and reiterated that Hamas must disarm, warning of severe consequences if it failed to do so.
Trump said that following the cessation of conflicts, many world leaders had become allies of the Board of Peace, adding that there was growing international interest in joining the initiative. He also questioned why Spain had not increased its defence spending.
The US president concluded by saying that humanitarian aid operations had already begun in Gaza following the peace agreement, calling the initiative a major step towards lasting regional stability.
