Transport fares across cities have been increased following a recent rise in petroleum prices, with adjustments affecting public transport, ride-hailing services, and goods carriers. The hikes have also started contributing to wider inflationary pressure on essential goods and daily commuting costs.
According to transport associations, public transport fares have been raised by around 7%, while goods transport and loader vehicle charges within city limits have increased by up to 10%.
Urban travel has been directly affected, with stop-to-stop fares now fixed at Rs50. Ride-hailing motorcycle services such as Bykea have also revised their rates, increasing fares from Rs200 to Rs300 per trip.
Intercity and suburban routes have similarly seen upward adjustments. Travel to nearby areas including Kachehri, Morgah, Rawat, and Pirwadhai is now priced at Rs80, while fares between Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been set at Rs100.
Other transport services, including Chingchi rickshaws, Suzuki pickups, and wagons, have also implemented revised fare structures.
Meanwhile, monthly pick-and-drop services for students and working women have increased by Rs1,000 to Rs1,200.
