Transporters in Lahore have unilaterally raise bus fares following a recent increase in diesel prices, affecting passengers traveling on key intercity routes.
The fare from Lahore to Rawalpindi has increased from Rs1,600 to Rs1,750, while the Lahore–Rahim Yar Khan route now costs Rs1,900, up Rs150. Fares for Lahore–Gujranwala trips have also risen.
Passengers expressed frustration over the fare hikes, saying the increase adds to their financial burden, especially as the prices of everyday goods are also rising. Many urged the government to reduce diesel prices to provide relief to the public.
The government recently kept petrol prices stable at Rs253.17 per liter for the next fortnight but increased high-speed diesel (HSD) prices by Rs11.30 per liter, raising the new rate to Rs268.38 per liter from Rs257.08.
The Petroleum Division stated the adjustment was made on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and will remain in effect until February 15.
The fuel price hike has triggered similar fare adjustments in other cities, raising concerns about the growing cost of transportation for daily commuters.
