Pakistan Railways has announced the suspension of all train services between Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar amid growing tensions in the federal capital due to protests organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The suspension includes immediate halts to services from Multan and Faisalabad to Rawalpindi. Additionally, all 25 train bookings scheduled for Sunday, November 24, have been canceled. Passengers who were scheduled to travel are being offered immediate refunds at temporary booking counters set up at sealed railway stations.
A heavy police presence has been deployed at railway stations, and access has been significantly restricted in the wake of the PTI-led protests demanding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Security forces have sealed entry and exit points in Islamabad with commercial containers, while multiple key roads have been blocked in anticipation of the protests.
In addition to the train service suspension, mobile internet services have been disrupted in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Several nearby cities have also reported partial internet outages, although mobile networks remain operational.
The decision to suspend train services comes as a precautionary measure due to security concerns surrounding the ongoing protest in Islamabad. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and it remains unclear when the services will be restored. Passengers are advised to check for further updates.
