Karachi: A three-year-old child from Karachi’s Orangi Town has tested positive for HIV, raising fresh concerns over the growing number of infections among children in the area.
According to a private television channel, the child’s HIV diagnosis was confirmed after testing positive on three separate testing kits.
The child’s parents said the boy had previously received medical treatment at Valika Hospital. They claimed that his health began to deteriorate after the treatment, prompting them to have him tested for HIV, which returned a positive result.
The exact source of the infection has not been officially established.
Reports indicate that 107 children in Orangi Town have so far been diagnosed with HIV. Meanwhile, in Zia Colony, the number of reported deaths among HIV-infected children has risen to nine.
