Three children from the same family drowned in rainwater in the city of Ferozewala, Punjab.
The tragic incident plunged the neighborhood into grief, while angry residents staged protests against the authorities, demanding action against those they say were responsible for negligence.
In Pathan Colony, Ferozewala, the protective embankment of the Bhed Drain collapsed, allowing rainwater and drain water to flood the residential area. As a result, water accumulated to depths of approximately 5 to 10 feet, leaving the entire neighborhood resembling a large pond.
During the flooding, three children from the same household were bathing in the accumulated water when they wandered into a deeper section and drowned.
Local residents rescued the children and rushed them to a hospital, but despite their efforts, all three were pronounced dead.
The deceased children were identified as Daniyal, Nauman, and Burhan, aged between 10 and 15 years. The tragedy left Pathan Colony in mourning, while outraged residents held demonstrations and chanted slogans against the administration.
Protesters said the disaster occurred because the protective embankment of the Bhed Drain had not been repaired in time.
They demanded the immediate drainage of floodwater from the affected area, stronger safety measures, and strict action against those responsible for the alleged negligence.
