KARACHI: At least two people were electrocuted to death in the metropolis after a third spell of heavy rain lashed several parts of the city today (Sunday).
Pakistan Meteorological Department last week had forecast a third spell of monsoon in the port city with heavy rain and thunderstorm between July 26 and July 27.
Rescue officials have informed that two youth were electrocuted to death in Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Landhi. Meanwhile, a 22-year-old youth was injured due to electrocution.
According to details, several areas have flooded with rainwater mixed with sewage. Nagan Chowrangi, Gurumandir, UP Morr, and Hassan Square are all inundated with several feet of water.
The parts of Karachi which received heavy to moderate rain include Malir, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, PECHS Society, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Kathor, Surjani Town, Bahadurabad, Super Highway Cattle Market, Shahra-e-Faisal and other parts of the city.
Temperature in Karachi fell and electricity supply has been suspended in multiple areas. More than 550 K-Electric (KE) feeders tripped, leaving many areas of the city without power.
The Meteorological Department informed that the heaviest downpour was recorded 78.5 mm in Gulistan-e-Johar, 78 mm in surrounding areas of University Road, 55 mm at Old Airport, 42 mm in Pehalwan Goth and 68.4 in Surjani.
The Met Office has informed that Karachi may witness another spell of rain at night. An emergency has been imposed at hospitals across the city. Rain emergency has also been declared at the KW&SB on the orders of Provincial Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah
