PTI Secretary General Asad Umar claimed on Tuesday that an assassination plot against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was hatched to put an end to his activities because the government was aware that he was not scared of going to jail.
The attempt on the party leader’s life occurred during the party’s long march, which is being utilized to put pressure on the government to hold early elections.
Speaking to the crowd at Chiniot, Umar claimed that although the government wanted to imprison the former premier, Imran’s declaration that he was not afraid of arrest forced it to use other means to stop him.
“Pakistanis are intellectuals, and they will not bow down to anyone,” he said. “You cannot scare us through calls from unknown numbers.”
He stressed that Pakistan has been blessed with every resource, but the nation was not utilizing it.
“Incompetent people have been appointed to run the country…. The public has given a clear message to Imran Khan to not give NROs to these politicians,” he said, referring to the National Reconciliation Ordinance, which grants amnesty to those accused of corruption.
Imran, who is currently recovering from gunshot wounds sustained during the attempted assassination, is scheduled to speak to the demonstration on Thursday night.
On Monday, Umar stated that Imran will soon re-join the PTI’s lengthy march and that it would continue till Pakistan gained “Haqeeqi Azadi.”
“We are out on the streets for the people and future of Pakistan,” he said. “Imran Khan has lived his life but still he is leading the protest for the future of the youth of Pakistan.”
