This year local audience got the opportunity to watch many local movies as the theatre displayed many Pakistani movies.
Around four movies have released this Eid and then Kamli and Peechay Tou Dekho hit the big screens in between this Eid ul Azha, we saw high-budget movies such as London Nahi Jaunga, Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad, and Lafangay released along with an international movie titled Thor.
What was shocking or ‘problematic’ fits well here was the unequal distribution of ticket prices for movies. A movie like ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was and is still being sold at Rs800.
This Eid ul Azha, movies like ‘Ghabrana Nahi Hai’ and ‘Chakkar’ were screened at the cost of Rs 800.

The audience watched Fahad Mustafa starrer for Rs900 and Humayun Saeed starrer ‘London Nahi Jaunga’ for Rs 900 whereas another Pakistani movie Lafangay is being screened for Rs 700.
Interestingly, Thor, an international movie is being screened for Rs 1000. The uneven and unequal distribution of ticket prices here makes no sense.
This does not end here, cinemas like Nueplex DHA are showing these Pakistani movies for Rs 1000 whereas its Askari branch offers the same movie for Rs 900. Thor on the other hand crosses the benchmark of Rs 1000 here and is being screened at Rs 1100. Moving to Atrium cinemas, the same movies are being screened at Rs 800.
Indeed the impact of the coronavirus outbreak has led to huge losses for theatres, leading it to steep hike in ticket prices. But this uneven price ticket distribution is also not a solution. Raising the prices of movie tickets like these might also not help the cinema owners to do business and this needs to be addressed loud and clear.
