KARACHI: A 14-years-old has become the national scrabble champion after defeating an eight-time former national champion in Gladiators 32nd Pakistan Scrabble Championship (Masters)
14-years-old named Syed Imaad Ali won the national scrabble championship which was played at the guesthouse of pharmaceutical firm PharmEvo in Karachi.
Imaad’s notable titles in the last two years are 2018 WESPA Youth Cup Champion, 2019 Junior World Scrabble Champion, 2019 Champions trophy winner, and 2020 National champion.
Imaad seemed nowhere in contention at the end of round 20; four wins behind former national champion Waseem Khatri, however, he recomposed himself.
He launched a spectacular ascent to the top winning all of the remaining seven matches, including the last two against Khatri in the king-of-the-hill format.
Khatri enjoyed a great run on day two and was looking very safe at the top with a healthy lead. Known for his ice-cool temperament the reigning junior world champion, Imaad did not give up and calmly started climbing up the ladder.
He saved his best for the king-of-the-hill stage when he beat Khatri four games in a row to snatch a fairytale victory.
